Ranking January 2019's Movies From Worst To Best

17. Second Act

Second Act Jennifer Lopez
STX Films

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 44% (5.0/10)

Box Office: Despite opening in a crowded Christmas frame in the U.S., the rom-com proved the continued commercial viability of Jennifer Lopez by grossing $60+ million worldwide, almost quadrupling its $16 million budget in the process. Not bad at all.

Verdict: The best thing that can be said about Second Act is that it's actually not rubbish, despite how naff the trailers looked.

J-Lo's appealing presence makes this frothy rom-com watchable enough, even if the big mid-film reveal is hilariously predictable and it doesn't do much to paint outside the familiar genre lines.

Still, the entire cast delivers more than the bare minimum - Vanessa Hudgens and Charlyne Yi in particular - and it doesn't outstay its welcome. Your mum will probably love it.
