Ranking January 2019's Movies From Worst To Best

15. IO

IO Anthony Mackie
Netflix

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 30% (5.2/10)

Box Office: Direct-to-Netflix.

Verdict: Another visually impressive yet fundamentally dull sci-fi offering from Netflix, IO pits Margaret Qualley and Anthony Mackie as two of Earth's few remaining residents in a dystopian future where the planet is dying.

Though atmospheric to a point, Jonathan Helpert's film is ultimately undone by stodgy pacing, creaky dialogue and a totally unnecessary, predictable romantic subplot. What begins as expectation-defying ends as woefully, conventionally schmaltzy.

Qualley and Mackie do fine with what they have, but given the potential for an agreeably low-key genre offering, this fell a little short of the mark.
