Ranking Jean-Claude Van Damme's Boss Fights

1. Bloodsport

Van Damme's Role: Frank Dux, an army officer gone rogue to compete in a mysterious underground fighting tournament known as the "Kumite" to defend the honor of his sensei.

The Bad Guy: In terms of lineage, villains don't get any badder than this. Bolo Yeung had appeared in a staggering number of kung fu flicks before Bloodsport, including Enter The Dragon. In fact, Bolo was one of Bruce Lee's last students. Pair that with a set of pectorals that could smother a full-grown tiger and you've got yourself the ultimate bad guy.

The Fight in a Nutshell: It doesn't get more classic than this. The crazy-eyed, wordless villain against the resolute hero who may be in over his head. No guns, no explosions, no... lightning being shot from people's hands. It's just two men on a platform, the outcome determined only by whoever can out-kick the other guy.

Yes, the music is overblown. Yes, the mid-fight flashback/montage is ridiculously unrealistic. And yes, Van Damme's dramatic grunting sounds like the bathroom of a Mexican dining establishment with an exceptional amount of health violations. But the corniness is a part of what makes this fight so special. That the choreography can both stand above all that while simultaneously emboldening the silliness with heart is a testament to Van Damme and Yeung's harmony as performers.

And seriously, HOW ABOUT THAT SPLIT KICK??
