Ranking Joss Whedon's Projects - From Worst To Best
1. Firefly
What Firefly lacks in longevity, it makes up for in quality and sheer potential. It may have only lasted a single season, but it left an indelible mark on television. This is Joss Whedon at his very best, firing on all cylinders.
Firefly really had everything that audiences were looking for in a show: memorable characters that you found yourself attached to almost immediately, tremendously detailed world-building that fit firmly within the genre without ever crossing over into the cheesier side of science fiction, great stories, and that trademark wit that Joss Whedon has always been known for.
So how did it last only one season, you may ask? Well, that's a very good question. One that you'd have to ask the infinitely wise executives over at Fox that question. But that fact that it was only one the air for one season actually works to its advantage in some ways; the characters don't have a chance to wear out their welcome, the story arcs aren't around long enough to get stale.
It's like a sweet summer romance, and it will exist forever in our minds as not only a great piece of science fiction writing, but as an example of a near-perfect television show.
