Ranking July 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

13. Pixels

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 18% (3.8/10) Box Office: Made on an $88 million budget, Pixels grossed $49.1 million worldwide on its first weekend, which was no doubt a crushing disappointment for Columbia, and pretty much ensures that this is a rare outright bomb for Adam Sandler (not that his movies have been performing as well over the last few years). The Verdict: Talk about a wasted opportunity. Pixels has at its heart such a delightfully charming concept, but it's smothered to death by tedious romantic subplots, utterly wasted actors (Peter Dinklage doesn't even show up until the mid-way point), a lack of exciting action, no internal logic whatsoever, and the rather questionable treatment of several iconic video game characters (making Q-Bert p*ss himself, for one). Sure, it pops visually and has the odd chuckle-worthy moment, but as an homage to classic video games, it absolutely bungles a terrific idea.
