Ranking July 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

8. Cafe Society

Ghostbusters Jason Bourne Ice Age
Lionsgate

RottenTomatoes Score: 71% (6.1/10)

Box Office: Though Woody Allen's latest scored the highest average per-theater gross of any 2016 movie, it's recouped just barely one-third of its $30 million budget so far, and even with European releases pending, it may well end up as his worst box office showing since 2007's largely-forgotten Cassandra's Dream.

Verdict: While not one of Woody Allen's more memorable efforts of recent years, Cafe Society does benefit from an outstanding cast (with Kristen Stewart categorically stealing the show) and some of the director's sharpest ever cinematography, thanks to legendary DP Vittorio Storaro.

It largely rakes over the director's same old themes, and though hardly refreshing in that regard, is at least stylish and entertaining enough.
