Ranking July 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
3. The BFG
RottenTomatoes Score: 74% (6.7/10)
Box Office: Steven Spielberg's reliable box office standing allowed him to acquire a $140 million budget for The BFG, but perhaps due to America's lack of familiarity with Roald Dahl, it's still struggling to make back its budget and may fail to do so by the end of its run (or only manage it marginally).
It's easily one of the lowest-grossing films of Spielberg's career and an almost inconceivable bomb for the world's most iconic filmmaker at this point in his career.
Verdict: It's difficult to imagine a much stronger adaptation of Dahl's beloved text, for though The BFG is far from perfect, it's an effortless winner for Spielberg, who injects plenty of heart into the delightful fantastical tale.
Still, the easy winner here is Mark Rylance, bringing the titular character to life with astonishing skill, while the mind-meltingly impressive visual effects certainly don't hurt.
