Ranking June 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
8. Despicable Me 3
RottenTomatoes Score: 63% (5.7/10)
Box Office: Even though the threequel has already almost tripled its $75 million budget, Despicable Me 3 still opened slightly below expectations and turned in the lowest first weekend since the original film. As such, it's certainly going to fall short of joining the billion dollar club, but it's still a huge success by any logical metric.
Verdict: Though few would claim Despicable Me 3 to be a necessary sequel or one that lives up to the better entries into the series, it is nevertheless a solid enough outing thanks to gorgeous animation, excellent voice acting and arguably the franchise's best villain to date, voiced by South Park's Trey Parker.
Illumination deserves a hand for not making the Minions the center-piece after their own movie made over a billion dollars in 2015, yet this third movie does suggest that the series might be starting to run out of steam creatively. Still, it's cute, fun and delivers the basic goods fans will expect.
