Ranking June 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

14. Tau

Tau Maika Monroe Ed Skrein
Netflix

RottenTomatoes Score: 33% (4.2/10)

Box Office: Tau went straight-to-Netflix.

Verdict: Dumped to Netflix with virtually no publicity despite starring rising actress Maika Monroe (It Follows) and featuring Gary Oldman in a voiceover role, Tau is another uninspired, mid-budget sci-fi dud from the streaming giant.

The premise - of a woman (Monroe) trapped inside a futuristic "smart house" as part of a mysterious experiment - is inherently goofy, but first-time director Federico D'Alessandro tackles the material dead seriously, resulting in a major tonal disconnect with the audience.

Monroe tries her hardest to sell the emotion, but she's hamstrung severely by the dull script, wonky direction and an hilariously uninspired performance from Oldman, whose lifeless line readings sound like they were literally phoned in on a Sunday afternoon before he went to play golf.
