Box Office: The Oscar-nominated Swedish fantasy film clearly didn't cost much, but even so, its $1.66 million worldwide total isn't up to much. Home video will help, but probably not enough to make it successful (or justify the awards spend).

Verdict: Border is a tough film to talk about without giving the game away, so simply know that it revolves around a seemingly deformed woman with the ability to sniff out fear.

Naturally, she ends up working as a customs officer, and she's damn good at her job. But when she crosses paths with a stranger who resembles her, everything changes.

A fascinating second feature from Iranian-Swedish director Ali Abbasi (Shelley), Border makes an art out of subverting the audience's expectations and delivering surprise after surprise.

The two central performances from Eva Melander and Eero Milonoff are fantastic, accentuated by first-rate makeup effects (for which the film received its Oscar nod), visually crisp direction and a third act that really needs to be seen to be believed.

If you're open-minded and love "weird" movies, this is one of the best of its kind in quite some time.
