Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100% (8.69/10)

Box Office: The universally acclaimed, Oscar-nominated documentary has grossed just $90,388 worldwide, though between PBS purchasing its TV rights in the U.S. and its streaming release on Hulu last summer, it's probably cleared its tiny budget just fine.

Verdict: A shockingly intimate and unforgettable film revolving around three young skaters growing up in Rockford, Illinois, Minding the Gap is a heartbreaking yet devastatingly human look at the troubled, formative aspects of their lives - abuse and mental illness primarily - as they transition into adulthood.

Brilliantly directed by Bing Liu - who is himself one of the film's subjects - this is about as authentic as slice-of-life documentaries get.

There is no sense that the editing is trying to contrive a particular narrative, simply that it is stitching together a haunting portrait of young men chasing the American Dream.
