Ranking May 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

7. Tomorrowland

RottenTomatoes Score: 51% (5.8/10) Box Office: With a gigantic $190 million price-tag, Tomorrowland needed to come storming out of the gate, but it earned a "disappointing" $42.6 million over May's four-day Memorial Day weekend, making it the lowest opening for a blockbuster this weekend since Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2010. Though it'll likely steal the #2 spot this weekend, Disney won't be getting rich off the film, which will be boosted by international grosses but is destined to be considered a huge box office letdown. The Verdict: Tomorrowland is probably the most frustrating movie released this year so far: it's got a superbly talented writer-director (Pixar's Brad Bird) and a killer cast (namely George Clooney and Hugh Laurie), yet the film fails to deliver on a number of the promises from its advertising, and as such proved highly divisive with critics. Clooney's not in it all that much, and the sense of joyous adventure really isn't there: it's also loaded with dubious political propaganda and has a cheesily earnest message which older, more cynical audiences will struggle to swallow down (which, admittedly, is kinda the film's point). It should be praised for its ambition, but sadly, Bird just can't make all the moving pieces fit together in a fun, interesting and emotionally gratifying way. Unless Star Wars Episode VII is somehow an utter catastrophe, this is destined to be the biggest disappointment of the year.
