Ranking May 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

3. The Nice Guys

Alice Through The Looking Glass X Men Apocalypse The Nice Guys
Warner Bros. Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 91% (7.6/10)

Box Office: Despite the combined star power of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the Shane Black-directed thriller-comedy has made back just half of its $50 million budget to date. It'll probably reap it all back in the long run, but it's going to be far from the hit Warner Bros. were hoping for.

Verdict: Welcome back to the noir genre, Shane Black! Fans of the filmmaker will lap up this savagely funny farce caper, which gets the best out of both Gosling and Crowe (especially Gosling), even as it trundles through an intentionally nonsensical crime plot.

It may outstay its welcome a little with its 2-hour run-time and perhaps isn't as tight as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but it's still a major credit in a summer where so many movies have already disappointed audiences.
