Box Office: Unsurprisingly, the $73 million animation has been a significant success, already tripling its budget at the box office and cementing itself as one of the most profitable video game movies of all time.

Verdict: On one hand, The Angry Birds movie does indeed capture the essence of the video game and delivers a visually stunning, action-packed third act, but the viewer is still required to put up with a ton of low-effort toilet gags and an undeniable waste of a superb vocal cast.

Still, it is somewhat better than it has any right to be as an adaptation of a glorified mobile phone app. It's generally inoffensive and spritely enough that it won't annoy the adults too much, but a far cleverer, more subversive film was certainly possible.
