Ranking May 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
11. Money Monster
RottenTomatoes Score: 55% (5.9/10)
Box Office: The modestly-budgeted $27 million dramatic thriller has near-doubled its budget to date, grossing slightly above expectations in its opening weekend. It won't be a huge hit, but not a bust either.
Verdict: It gets zero points for subtlety, but Jodie Foster's latest effort is a rock-solid thriller that finds George Clooney in peak form, while Jack O'Connell and Julia Roberts provide expectedly sturdy support.
What really makes this movie work is that it quickly establishes a white-knuckle premise and then constantly upends expectations about how it will end, hurling in red herrings and deliberately undermining some potentially sentimental resolutions.
The third act arguably isn't as satisfying as what came before, but it's still an enjoyable and terrifically acted - if flawed - little thriller that has a ton of cult potential.
