Ranking May 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

5. Miss Sloane

Miss Sloane Jessica Chastain
EuropaCorp

RottenTomatoes Score: 74% (6.5/10)

Box Office: Even with a mere $13 million budget, Jessica Chastain's political thriller hasn't even made half its cost back.

Verdict: Jessica Chastain gives a firecracker performance as a ferociously determined Washington lobbyist in a film that went weirdly ignored last Oscar season during its U.S. release, despite Chastain giving easily one of the best lead performances of 2016.

Veteran filmmaker John Madden does a terrific job making the barbed dialogue pop, mining unexpected suspense out of primarily talky scenes, and though it runs a little too long in the end, Chastain's intense performance makes for thoroughly compulsive viewing.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
