Ranking May 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

6. Alien: Covenant

Alien Covenant
20th Century Fox

RottenTomatoes Score: 71% (6.4/10)

Box Office: Ridley Scott's $97 million Prometheus sequel opened slightly below expectations, and though it's already made its budget back, a brutal 71% drop in its second weekend means it'll end up grossing substantially less than its predecessor. It'll probably still get a sequel, though.

Verdict: A somewhat awkward but nevertheless entertaining attempt to return the xenomorph to the Alien series while still serving as a Prometheus follow-up, Alien: Covenant suffers from infuriating character logic and asks more questions than it answers, but is visually stunning, boasts some brutal violence and benefits from another terrific performance by Michael Fassbender, this time in stereo.

The Internet hate is pretty strong for Covenant already, but taken on its own terms, it's pretty decent, just not the major return to form fans desperately wanted it to be.
