Ranking May 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

3. Colossal

Colossal Monster
NEON

RottenTomatoes Score: 79% (7.2/10)

Box Office: The Anne Hathaway-starring offbeat monster comedy hasn't even made back $5 million of its mild $15 million budget. Even though it'll probably perform much better on VOD, it's still a bust.

Verdict: Though uneven at times and a little overlong, Colossal mostly delivers on the expectations of its oddball existential sci-fi premise, thanks to fine performances from Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis.

Perhaps the biggest surprise Colossal has in store is how dark it gets. Though marketed as a quirky comedy with a neat hook, it actually visits some incredibly unpleasant places and, best of all, absolutely gets away with it. No doubt one of the year's most unique and unforgettable films so far.
