Ranking October 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

11. Breathe

Breathe Andrew Garfield Claire Foy

RottenTomatoes Score: 66% (6.4/10)

Box Office: With mixed reviews killing its Oscar potential, Andy Serkis' directorial debut was dead-on-arrival on limited release, having made less than $400,000 to date.

Verdict: Though failing to live up to all that initial awards hype, Breathe is a decent inspirational drama, driven largely by Andrew Garfield's excellent central performance.

The script is pure boilerplate Oscar-baiting fare, but the film looks lovely and everyone in front of the camera is trying their damnedest.

Not a mind-blowing debut for Serkis, but nevertheless proof that he can assemble a competent film. Hopefully he'll work from a less formulaic script next time, though.
