15. American Assassin

Box Office: The spy action thriller has just barely made its $33 million budget back. This one isn't getting a sequel.

Verdict: A potentially intriguing spy thriller that quickly jettisons that promise in favour of a generic action flick, American Assassin benefits from Dylan O'Brien's surprisingly convincing performance and a highly entertaining Michael Keaton...but that's about it.

The action sequences are forgettable, the brutal violence is more nauseatingly sadistic than enjoyable, and the third-act devolves into an unintentionally hilarious mess, complete with terrible visual effects.

It's also full of unironic cliched dialogue like, "He's testing off the charts...maybe the best I've ever seen", which really says it all.
