7. Cousin Avi

Snatch Brad Pitt
Sony Pictures

Who: an exuberant New York jeweller - in London purely for business reasons, definitely not for pleasure.

What he knows about diamonds: all there is to know. It's Avi's vested interest in the gigantic diamond that Franky Four Fingers has acquired which brings him to London in the first place - though it turns out to be a more eventful trip than he'd hoped.

From his first moment on British soil, Avi is resigned to the knowledge that the venture won't be a vacation. All he wants is to oversee the successful transaction of the diamond between Franky and his cousin and business associate Doug the Head, but the topsy-turvy plot has other plans.

To get his hands on the rock, Avi must first navigate the London underworld, hiring vaunted enforcer and handyman Bullet Tooth Tony as his guide. Even then, nothing's simple. Avi has to deal with Russian gunmen, meddling crooks, hungry dogs and accidental killings in his pursuit. On top of that, he finds that nobody seems to speak English as he understands it.

Upon arriving stateside at film's end, he only has one thing to declare to US customs; "Don't go to England." After the time he'd had, who can blame him?

Best quote: "I don't like leaving my own country, Doug, and I especially don't like leaving it for anything less than warm sandy beaches and cocktails with little straw hats."
