Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2016's Summer Blockbusters
6. Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) - The BFG
The Role: The young orphan girl who befriends The BFG (Mark Rylance) and aids him on his quest to bring peace to Giant Country.
Though it goes without saying that the main attraction of Steven Spielberg's latest is Rylance's wonderful, performance-captured giant, Barnhill still does a terrific job holding her own, creating a charming sidekick for the titular big guy.
It's an exceptional debut for the young actress, who does a fantastic job conveying the immense feeling of wonder and childlike fascination we can all relate to at some point in our lives.
Hopefully the movie's disappointing box office performance won't stall Barnhill's career, because she was every bit the Sophie that Roald Dahl conceived (we'll have to wait and see, as her IMDB page lists nothing else yet).
