Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2017's Summer Blockbusters
7. Daniels - Alien: Covenant
In a movie full of characters with head-smackingly awful decision-making skills, heroine Daniels (Katherine Waterston) is actually a relatively sensible and resourceful character.
Aside from trusting "Walter" at the end, she doesn't make too many poor choices, and is a compelling enough Ripley substitute even if she naturally doesn't measure anywhere close to the original article.
She has some palpable emotional turmoil with her husband's (James Franco) death at the beginning of the film, holds her own against the xenomorphs well enough, and is solidly acted throughout by Waterston.
Granted, Michael Fassbender's dual android performance steals away the entire movie, but Daniels is certainly one of the brighter spots among the Covenant's mostly braindead roster. And thankfully, the rumours about her being Ripley's daughter turned out to be totally false. Phew.
