Ranking The Coen Brothers Movies From Worst To Best
5. The Big Lebowski
The Big Lebowski is one of the Coen’s best known films and an absolute cult phenomenon of a picture. The laid-back and amiable ‘Dude’ who heads this off-the-walls comedy is played with aplomb by Jeff Bridges- and it has become one of the actors most iconic roles over time.
The film is a genuinely original comedy that only the Coen’s would be capable of with their unique brand of wit and ability. The writing is sharp and clever and every character feels like a fleshed out and integral piece of the story, no matter how small (a trademark that no filmmaker comes close to touching the Coens in). Bridges is fantastically supported with some equally fantastic performances from the likes of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Steve Buscemi and John Goodman. Goodman, in particular, is at his career best throughout the film.
There is almost nothing not to like about the funny and endearing Big Lebowski and it is testament to the quality of the Coen’s work that it can not climb any higher on the list. The Dude may not abide this placing but it is fair considering what comes next.
