Ranking The MCU Captain America Suits From Worst To Best
5. USO Costume
The appearance of the USO suit is one of the most heartwarming fan-service moments in the MCU. No one expected Steve Rogers to wear the original look as translated literally from the comics, so why not homage to it instead as the propaganda costume he wears as a mascot for the US army?
It looks like something one would think of to rally the troops for World War II, because that’s exactly what happened in real life with the comics. It is meant to be charming, and it is. It is nostalgic in all the right places - stars, stripes, shield, and all.
The irony is, while it is meant to be silly, the costume fits so well on Chris Evans, no one would have minded it if it became the official suit worn by him in action scenes. The pulpy tone can justify him wearing it. Superhero serials made in the actual 1940s have costumes like this for the leads all the time.
In essence, it is not dissimilar in style from the ones worn by superheroes in the period flashbacks from the Watchmen movie adaptation. The silliness of those costumes made the time periods they were covering all the more credible and charming. That’s what the USO costume did for Captain America: The First Avenger.
