Ranking The Super Bowl Movie Trailers From Worst To Best
7. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
This was arguably the most anticipated trailer to show at the Super Bowl, as it has been 6 years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie and this was our first real look at what to expect. It is hard to tell whether people will be desperate to see Captain Jack Sparrow again after such a long time, or whether goodwill has dissipated.
The trailer is coherent and has some stand-out moments, however, it does not effectively make use of the huge audience who would have watched it because it has a distinct lack of the franchise's biggest selling point - Jack Sparrow. Whilst the film may make the creative choice to use Captain Jack in a smaller but more impactful capacity as they did in the first film, nothing would interest a sports fan who isn't obsessed with movies more than seeing the recognisable icon. It would be like having a Rogue One trailer without recognisable vehicles, locations or characters.
Instead it features a soundtrack by Johnny Cash, which has now curiously become a cliche and here his music really does not gel well with the trailer. And fatally, the two big reveals of the trailer, the return of both Orlando Bloom's Will Turner and Captain Jack, are not particularly exciting. This film has a lot of work ahead to win over viewers.
