Ranking Tom Hardy's Accents From Weird To Really Weird

2. Max Rockatansky - Mad Max: Fury Road

Is he supposed to be Australian? That's the biggest question that most people had after watching Tom Hardy in George Miller's recent Mad Max reboot. As always, Hardy is mesmerising to watch despite the accent, but there's no use pretending that it wasn't downright bizarre. Now and again the actor sounded as though he was attempting to speak in an Australian accent, and sometimes he seemed to have dropped it completely, reverting to a Bane-like husk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rfdj8_xoLk For much of the movie, Hardy also opts to mumble his lines, and in those instances his accent is just... otherworldly. Seriously: it's not of this Earth, which sort of make sense given the apocalyptic nature of Miller's world. Hardy himself has also suggested that Max hasn't spoken in years, which could explain the bizarre nature of his hybrid-like voice. It seems safe to assume that Hardy wasn't trying to do a full-on Australian accent in Mad Max, but rather a hodgepodge of Australian, English, American and South African, even - maybe on purpose, but perhaps by accident. Whatever happened here, there's no denying that Mad Max showcases one of the actor's most curiously weird accents to date.
