Ranking What Was Really The Best Film Of Every Year 1990-2021
7. 2015 - Mad Max: Fury Road
Actually won: Spotlight.
Shocking everyone, Tom McCarthy's investigative drama Spotlight ended up winning Best Picture over the likes of The Martian, The Revenant and The Big Short.
It was a surprise victory - though one that was well deserved all the same - but a bigger surprise was that Mad Max: Fury Road lost. A classic action film packed with death-defying stunts and sublime use of scenery, it was more than deserving of the top award for the sheer scale of it alone.
One of the most exhilarating action movies of the last twenty years, Fury Road is a thrilling exercise in action moviemaking and a reminder of how not everything has to be CGI to work on the big screen. It's sublime, and would've made for a fun win.
