Razzies 2019: 7 Winners That Make No Sense

6. Worst Picture & Worst Director - Holmes & Watson

Few are going to argue that the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly-starring "comedy" Holmes & Watson was anything less than a bad movie - Sony did try to sell it to Netflix after all - but worst of the year? Not quite.

Unfunny, underwhelming and painfully low-effort though it is, there were a number of cinematic trainwrecks which misfired a touch more aggressively.

And though writer-director Etan Cohen certainly earned his Worst Director nod, he didn't quite deserve the gold outright.

Who Should've Won: The infamous John Travolta-starring crime drama Gotti was far and away the worst movie nominated and quite arguably the worst of the year.

And better still, Kevin Connolly's direction was hilariously lacking in self-awareness, making the film play more like an accidental SNL-style parody of Scorsese-aping mob thrillers.

Holmes & Watson was certainly a more fitting Worst Picture nominee than The Happytime Murders and Winchester - Robin Hood is debatable - but beating out Gotti makes no sense.

And similarly, the comedy was more poorly directed than Fifty Shades Freed, The Happytime Murders and Winchester, but Gotti? Not a chance.
