Re-Casting The Lord Of The Rings Movies If They Came Out Today

Merry is, of course, the more sensible half of the troublemaking Hobbit duo.

As the non-comedian guest host of The Last Leg, Alex Brooker has a lot of experience managing a sillier, more clumsy co-star.

Full of an honest wit and boyish charm, Brooker would make a perfect Hobbit, and his slightly gruffer appearance is a boon for conveying Merry's love for adventure and longing to prove himself through battle. Though he'd probably look equally as silly in a metal helmet as Dominic Monaghan did.

The four Hobbits make up the emotional core of the LOTR, and are the viewers' way in to the large and ever so slightly dense world of Middle Earth, so Alex's relative anonymity may work in his favour. Merry is a small fish in a big pond, much like Alex would be on set. With a good script, a solid performance, and just a little luck, things could work out well for the hairy footed foursome.

He's also the generally the right size and build for a hobbit, all that's needed is a curly wig and some prosthetic toes. Isn't Hollywood glamorous?
