Re-Casting The Lord Of The Rings Movies If They Came Out Today

2. Frodo - James Mcavoy

Lord Of The Rings
Fox

A leading role needs a leading man, but not one that's too much of an identity himself.

What's needed is an actor who can disappear into the role, an actor who can deal with the pressures of a big production, without taking all the glory away from the ensemble cast. What's needed is James McAvoy.

McAvoy's been a fan favourite for Frodo for years, and we're just lucky that he doesn't seem to have aged in the past decade. Must be all the time travelling he does in his films.

McAvoy has a proven track record of playing well with others, having already been a part of the ensemble of fresh faced X men that first appeared in First Class.

Consequently, he's also one of the most versatile actors working today, showcasing the breadth of his thespianic skills in Split and Glass, where he plays a wealth of different personalities, including that of an innocent young six year old. If you've watched the film that won't sound weird.

Nevertheless, that naivety and vulnerability are perfect for a character like Frodo, who finds himself tasked with the impossible in a world that's too big for him. Sometimes literally.

Probably best if they don't make Frodo a secret serial killer, though. Just saying.
