Re-Casting The Lord Of The Rings Movies If They Came Out Today

1. Aragorn - Joseph Mawle

Lord Of The Rings
HBO

Most will remember Joseph Mawle from Game of Thrones, where he played Benjen Stark and then *ahem* the thing that came after Benjen Stark.

As such, Mawle's no stranger to big fantasy, and if he can understand the political complexities of Game of Thrones, he should have no trouble conveying Tolkien's themes from LOTR.

Now, the Night's Watch aren't strictly allowed to hold any titles or become a King of Gondor, but let's give him a pass just this once, shall we? We did for Jon Snow.

If that's not enough, Mawle's also spent time on big shows like Ripper Street, and he's also rumoured to be starring in the LOTR tv show itself. Like with Irons, Casting Mawle in the film version as well could be the perfect way to tie the unholy swathe of incoming licensed LOTR properties together.

If anything, this means he's a little overqualified for the role, but his time as a host of detectives and other heroes should have given Mawle the natural air of authority and righteousness needed to portray Ranger cum King Aragorn.

Oh, the man's also played Jesus as well. What more do you want?
