Re-Casting The Lord Of The Rings Movies If They Came Out Today
16. Elrond - Bill Nighe
One of the major players to Tolkien's mythology as a whole is the character of Elrond Halfelven, who, while not having a huge role in the LOTR trilogy, is a seminal component to the Ring's backstory.
Elrond is ridiculously old, and immortal, and so needs an actor who can portray experience and wisdom without seeming too geriatric. It's just a shame there are no actual immortal elf people in real life to put a casting call to.
The next best thing then, is Bill Nighy.
Nighy's no stranger to the big blockbuster, having been featured in the likes of the Harry Potter and Destiny franchises, as well as getting up close and personal with CGI work in his role as Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Nighy's soothing voice, as well as his naturally calm demeanour, would be an excellent asset to the all important Council scene, where Elrond serves as an intermediary and overseer. As long as someone's there to tell him that "one cannot simply walk into Mordor," Bill Nighy would be an excellent choice for the Rivendell dwelling advisor. Hey, at least it's not as weird as playing a giant, talking squid man.
