Recasting Original X-Men Movie If It Came Out Today

1. Aidan Turner - Wolverine

While it's incredibly hard to imagine anyone other than Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine, in this hypothetical scenario, he never got the part in the first place, so comparisons are off the table.

Still, if the studio were approaching the casting of Wolverine for the first time in 2017 - as though every existing X-Men film never happened - we don't think they'd conduct their search for an actor any differently to how they did over seventeen years ago.

Since Wolverine is the movie's lead, they'd be looking for a proven talent who's easy on the eyes and is capable of packing on the necessary amount of muscle, making Aidan Turner a great choice for the role.

Poldark showed he's a solid lead and is capable of getting into good shape for a part, and on top of that, he's got that dark-haired, rugged look that lends itself well to the character.

His blockbuster experience, gained on the Hobbit films, would also come in handy here. Turner is the complete package, and with Poldark being more popular than ever and the actor being touted for the likes of James Bond, it's only a matter of time before he lands the role that defines his career.

Who would you cast in Bryan Singer's original X-Men film, if it came out today? Leave your picks in the comments!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
