Recasting The Lord Of The Rings Movies
1. Aragorn - Jamie Dornan
Aragorn is a fascinating character because he is essentially two roles. The actor portraying him needs to be able to play Strider the ranger and Aragorn the King convincingly. Mortensen was incredible in this role, but he wasn't entirely believable as the kingly figure of the series. If the part were to be played again, it would be imperative to focus on the duality of Aragorn's place in the story.
Jamie Dornan, as a leading man is excellent at making his characters feel nuanced. Even when working with bad material he does a great job of adding complexities to his performances. This sense of a troubled past combined with his physical abilities would encapsulate Strider perfectly. But Dornan also has a high-status authority about himself that would juxtapose this and sell the kingly aspects of the character as well.
Overall his look combined with his outstanding screen presence would establish a gravitas to the role that feels appropriate for his purpose. Mortensen may have made this part iconic and will forever be the Aragorn that we know and love, but Dornan could at least give him a run for his money.
