Recasting The Lord Of The Rings Movies
11. Arwen - Ana Taylor Joy
Anya Taylor Joy is another performer that has an elven quality to her facial features. She looks like a person who would be right at home in a fantasy setting. Yet her appropriateness for the role is not just limited to her matching the aesthetic. As the performer has proven in films such as The Witch, Split and Emma she is more than capable of bringing a charming yet dark presence.
Casting her would make Arwen believable as a character that has a significant story behind her. Taylor-Joy is fantastic at bringing a sense of background to her roles. Her energy always feels grounded in history and backstory. A lot of this - much like Vanessa Kirby - relates to her ability to convey meaning through her eyes. In a similar vein to Galadriel, this performance could feel meaningful thanks to its focus on subtlety in expression.
The only downside would be that she may appear too young for the role, but that is something that could also work in her favour, as it makes logistical sense in regards to the lifespan of elves.
