In June 2024, it was announced that a spin-off from the M3GAN franchise was in the works - an erotic thriller called Soulm8te, with the talented Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) directing.
It wrapped shooting in November 2024, with an original intended release date of January 2026.
However, after M3GAN 2.0 unexpectedly bombed at the box office in the summer of 2025, Blumhouse evidently got cold feet about the IP, and so pulled Soulm8te from their release calendar.
After many many months of radio silence, back in July Universal announced that the film had been downgraded from a theatrical release and was instead being dumped on streaming platforms, which it was with little fanfare in August.
But here's the thing - Soulm8te really isn't that bad at all.
Sure, it doesn't suggest there's much juice in a line of M3GAN spin-offs, but Lily Sullivan's superb performance as a murderously possessive android is worth the price of admission alone.
