Reese Witherspoon: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Tracy Flick - Election (1999)
In this Alexander Payne dark comedy, the director brilliantly tells the tale of a high school election. But this is hardly your average high school movie; this is an intelligently written, foul-mouthed film, filled with colourful characters and plenty of laughs in the process. In a pitch-perfect role, Reese Witherspoon is Tracy Flick, one of those irritating kids that always sat in the front row and always have their hand raised, ready to answer any question the teacher could think to ask. Tracy is one of those fiercely calculating careerist who will stop at nothing to get the main prize. In this case, the main prize is to win the office of student body president at Carver High School. As you watch the film, you have no choice but got to laugh at Witherspoon's tightly wound Little Miss Perfect, rising at dawn to do her hair and encase herself in a preppy look before baking cupcakes to pass out to potential voters. Meanwhile, her goodie-goodie exterior hides the fact that she's willing to do just about anything to get ahead. This includes sabotaging her competition's campaign and telling flat-out lies. As Tracy Flick, Witherspoon perfectly tows the line between cute and extremely irritating.
