4. The Occasionally Cringe-Worthy Script

Bizarrely, Reign of the Superman isn't also written by The Death of Superman's Peter J. Tomasi, with Tim Sheridan and Jim Krieg taking over scripting duties, the latter having previously worked on 2017's atrocious Batman and Harley Quinn.

Though The Death of Superman had its own share of writing issues, Reign of the Superman sometimes ventures into cringe-worthy territory, namely by way of its unnecessary quips, which are neither clever enough to amuse adults nor basically funny enough for kids.

There are also some wildly needless attempts to make the story seem current, with occasional, forced references to social media which will surely date the film badly.

Thankfully there's virtually none of the casual sexism that characterised Krieg's aforementioned disaster - and most DC animation in general, really - but even so, it's a shame these films continue to tout a juvenile tone with low-effort gags that mostly fall flat.
