Reign Of The Supermen Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Tone Is All Over The Place

This is another common issue with WB animated films: they struggle to strike a consistent tone, and the result is nothing short of pure mood whiplash.

Reign of the Supermen is filled with sombre, serious moments loaded with drama and gravitas, yet this is often undercut by the commitment to silly quips and the story's often excessive outlandishness (namely Cyborg Superman's ability to grant superpowers to regular people).

One minute Lois and Wonder Woman are mourning Superman, and the next we're forced to sit through Superboy staring at Lois' chest and trying to hit on her, declaring himself "old enough" when she asks about his age.

There's no consideration for keeping a consistent tenor throughout, and it's frustrating.

These flaws aside, though, this is a (mostly) solid DC animation, and here's everything it gets right...
