Reign Of The Supermen Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Pointless Cameos

Considering that Superman spends a decent chunk of the movie out of commission, this is actually a rare case of a DC animated movie where some meaningful cameos from the Justice League would be totally welcome (as opposed to feeling like shoehorned fan service).

Unfortunately there's precious little substance to the cameos from the League, who largely just appear to show their faces, drop a few lines and explain why they're away from Earth for much of the film.

Perhaps more peculiar is Darkseid, who randomly appears and disappears from the story whenever it's convenient, with desperately little attempt made to give him compelling motives or rich characterisation.

These moments are basically just unambitious crowd-pleasing fare, yet given Superman's absence, there was the potential for them to be so much more.
