Ridley Scott: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

10. Prometheus

Easily Ridley Scott's most controversial film to date, Prometheus was marketed as a quasi-prequel to Alien, but most fans didn't realise just how "quasi" the movie was going to be. Indeed, Damon Lindelof's re-writes of the original script toned down the Alien references in a relatively nonsensical way, all because Fox still wanted him to give them something they could market within the Alien universe while not directly tethering itself to it. Still, Prometheus is an entertaining, visually stunning and well-acted sci-fi film, if simply not up to the high standard of Scott's classic original, and ultimately ends up asking more questions than it answers. Even so, with Alien: Paradise Lost lined up as Scott's next film and Damon Lindelof being nowhere near it, hopefully he can deliver something much more satisfying next time. As a foundation for what comes next, it's a perfectly good, enjoyable film, but given how it toys with fans and their hopes, it's prevented from being in Scott's very top tier of films.
