Ridley Scott: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

17. Legend

Scott's foray into 80s fantasy resulted in this entertaining, Tom Cruise-starring effort which succeeds more because of its acting and style than the relatively generic plot, which could have been pulled from just about any prior fantasy film or book of the last century prior. The cinematography is terrific and the make-up was good enough to end up Oscar nominated, particularly as it pertains to Tim Curry's villainous Darkness. Speaking of which, Curry is easily the reason to see the film: even though his screen time is scarce, his delicious performance is the unquestionable highlight and really quite terrifying. The romance is pretty nauseating stuff and it's a shame the plot is such a low-effort consideration, but it's a fun romp all the same and shows Scott again proving he can pull off pretty much any genre (except for romantic comedy, of course).
