Rob Zombie's 5 Defining Moments As A Director

3. The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto

The Haunted World of El Superbeasto A few years ago Rob Zombie produced a totally kick ass comic book called The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. A few years later that same kick ass comic book was turned into an animated movie. It bombed. But just because a few nerds on Rotten Tomatoes didn't enjoy it (because they suck) it doesn't take anything away from this unique, well made juxtaposition of exploitation, musicals, horror and comedy. The plot is simple really. El Superbeasto is a former Mexican Wrestler turned Exploitation movie maker who finds himself in the unenviable position of trying to prevent Dr Satan (yep you read that right) from taking over the world. Joining him is his sexy, big breasted girlfriend Suzi-X who - surprise surprise - is voiced by Zombies wife Sherri Moon Zombie. As well as Dr Satan other House of 1000 Corpses characters appear including Bill Moseley's Otis Driftwood and cult anti-hero Captain Spalding so it really is a Rob Zombie fans wet dream as far as casting goes. The Haunted World of El Superbeasto also shows off how versatile Zombie is as a Director proving just as adept at animated movies as he is at live action. In fact Zombies love of classic pop culture and TV shows is never more evident and lends itself perfectly to this genre. It wouldn't be a stretch to describe The Haunted World of El Superbeasto as being just like Scooby Doo but with more blood and plenty of nipples.
