Rob Zombie's 5 Defining Moments As A Director

2. House Of 1000 Corpses

House of 1000 Corpses Dr Satan House of 1000 Corpses was Zombies first feature length movie and my personal favourite. Filmed way back in 2000 the film was shelved after receiving an NC-17 rating as it was deemed too violent, gory and bizarre for general release by Universal. Eventually Zombie was able to buy the rights back and in 2003 Lionsgate distributed it across the globe. Looking like a music video crossed with the classic exploitation movies of the 1970's that so heavily inspired his work and music House of 1000 Corpses is a genius little tale about a demented family who kidnap a group of 'teenagers' who are driving across America visiting offbeat roadside attractions. At first the group encounter Captain Spaulding's Museum of Monsters & Madmen completely unaware that Spaulding himself is a mad man and has designs on gifting the teens to the aforementioned Firefly family. It isn't long after they leave Spaulding's museum that they encounter Sherri Moon's Baby character who lures them into her home - they never leave again. At least not alive. Everything about House of 1000 Corpses screams unique from it's sprawling homestead to the cast of insane but likeable characters and despite poor critical reception it managed to make more than double its budget during its short cinematic run. It has since gained a huge cult following on DVD and even inspired a sequel which we'll touch upon later. It's fair enough to say that Rob was still finding his 'voice' when he made Corpses but in many ways for a lot of his fans he's only once managed to top this must see debut.
