Robocop: The Evolution Of Paul Verhoeven's Classic In 7 Trailers
6. Robocop: Animated Series (1988)
Before a sequel could be made Marvel - who had begun releasing Robocop comics - churned out this ill-fated animated series that was cancelled quicker than you could say "Your move creep". Had it been the modern era a direct to DVD animated spin off would likely have worked but back in the late 1980's it was a bad decision and the series was quickly forgotten. Looking back at some of the episodes it's not hard to see why this show wasn't up there with other animated spin off's such as Police Academy the Animated Series, The Real Ghostbusters etc. Including drug taking, murderous psychopaths like Clarence Boddicker and having Robocop try to crush another cop's skull were all likely too much for most TV networks to handle. With no obvious timeslot in which it could thrive the end result was inevitable. The animated Robocop carries a laser and has way more movement than in the movies. His 12 episode run is considered non canon but is an interesting take on the character none the less. The 'trailer' I've included is fan made and a poor example but it is a fantastic example of why a kid's TV show based on an ultra violent adult movie was never EVER going to work.
