Robots Box Viral For REAL STEEL

Anyone familiar with the mythology of Snakes on a Plane will be aware that it is said to have originated from a conversation by beleaguered writers trying to devise the most ridiculous one line pitch for a Hollywood movie and that through a series of chance happening and convolutions, the film ended up being made. The apocryphal tale is almost certainly all bunk, and the official version of events is that the concept was pitched by then University administrator David D€™Allessandro who had fears of both snakes and planes. It was, however, this story that sprung instantly to mind when being related the premise of forthcoming Shawn Levy movie Real Steel. Part Rocky, part Transformers, Part Robot Wars; Real Steel€™s fatuous premise is that, in the future, humanity becomes bored of boxing bouts between people and spurns them in favour of more exciting battles between humanoid robots. The protagonist will be the omnipresent Hugh Jackman who plays a former fighter helping to build and train a robot to recapture former glories. Now, unlike Snakes on a Plain, Real Steel appears wholly convinced of the seriousness of the project and, therefore, unaware of their inherent absurdity. A conceit on this level demands a lack of self-awareness that would be the envy of avaricious cine-criminal Michael Bay, and as such, has developed an elaborate viral marketing campaign that invites the public in a similairly earnest fashion. www.wrb.com invites those interested to submit codes into a mock futuristic computer game to access various levels in which information about the characters, history and production may be accessed. Thus far it appears that character profiles of certain key actors €“ the like of which are typically written and submitted to developers in order to sell a concept- are available on the first level, and information regarding the mythology of the WRB available at the seconds. The final levels are suspected to contain actual clips from the film and production process. If you use the site and can keep a straight face, Real Steel maybe the movie for you- although it doesn€™t have Samuel L Jackson. The movie is due for release on October 7th
