Most of the time when people hear the words 'teenage' and 'comics' they see visions of adolescent fare that is suitable for a Saturday spent on the couch, rather than anything that might have substantial merit as a piece of work. Fortunately there are plenty of alternatives emerging in the world of comics and graphic novels that offer both succour and sustenance.
Runaways really does offer a challenging perspective for teenagers, something that would work in a film adaptation - these characters are going through seismic changes with only each other to really cling to. It really redefines the word 'family', something that a lot of teens are going through and could relate to, without talking down to them or being too dense for them to truly identify with and understand.
