Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: Every Evil Ex Fight Ranked Worst To Best
5. Matthew Patel - Ex Number 1
Now we can get into the significant segments within the film, as the second-lowest fight is still an incredible battle and would easily be the highlight of any other project, proving why this film is so amazing.
The build-up to Matthew Patel thus far has been quiet and subtle, thanks to the fact that our narrator Scott has ignored the foreshadowing he has been given about Matthew's arrival. So, when Matthew crashes through the ceiling, the audience is just as surprised as Scott is.
The sequence is a little more straightforward than the rest of the battles, with the two fighting hand-to-hand and culminating in a short blunt force knockout. However, the introduction of Patel's mystical powers in the form of a song is enjoyable and looks fantastic.
Ultimately, this character is amusing, and we are given a clear backstory to him with Ramona that instantly reveals how petty the League of Evil Exes will be.
The fight falters a little as it needs to explain what's going on and why, seeing as it's the first battle. But from now on, every fight is self-explanatory and thus can be more creative.
