For the ICONIC opening minutes of the very first Scream film in the franchise, it’s actually the legendary director himself who dons the infamous mask and gown to brutally slaughter Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) in the first film's explosive opening.

Craven also sustained an injury in the process. In the scene where Drew turns around to come face to face with her fate through one of the living room windows and the killer smashes through the pane of glass to reach her, Barrymore, in a completely unscripted move, hits Craven in the face full force with the telephone.

Luckily for her, he wasn't upset and thought it looked so good in the end that he kept it in the final cut of the film.
